TRANSCAN-3 partners have agreed to focus their second Joint Transnational Call for proposals (JTC 2022) on :
“Novel translational approaches to tackle the challenges of hard-to-treat cancers from early diagnosis to therapy”
Survival rate for most cancers has doubled over the past 40 years, with 50% of patients surviving to 10 years or longer. However, progress has not advanced equally for all forms of cancer. According to the most authoritative cancer epidemiology registries in the Western world (e.g., the NIH Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program, https://seer.cancer.gov or the IARC Cancer Survival in High-Income Countries (SURVMARK-2) project, https://gco.iarc.fr/survival/survmark), survival for some types of cancer is lagging behind, due to the lack of successful treatment. For some Hard-To-Treat Cancers (HTTC), the 5-year survival rate is still lower than 35% and little or no improvement has occurred in the past decades; these include tumours arising in the oesophagus, liver and annexes, pancreas, lung/pleura, and brain.
Identification/validation of novel therapeutic approaches.
Development of novel drug delivery strategies.
Call Timeline
23 May 2022 : Publication of the call
18 July 2022 at 12:00 (CEST) : Deadline for pre-proposal submission
15 December 2022 at 12:00 (CET) : Deadline for full-proposal submission

GROUP LEADER POSITION
Basic/Translational Research in Paediatric Oncology
Institut Curie, Paris
The hosting structure
Institut Curie Research Center
Institut Curie consists of a cancer hospital and a world-class multidisciplinary research center combining research in cell biology, genetics, epigenetics, immunology, soft matter physics, organic and medicinal chemistry.
It includes over 3,300 researchers, physicians, clinicians, technicians, and administrative staff working on three sites: Paris, Orsay and Saint-Cloud. The institute facilities include an advanced imaging platform from confocal to super-resolution, multiple single cell technologies, small molecule and CRISPR screening, high throughput sequencing, bioinformatics, proteomics and mass spectrometry, antibody technologies and protein purification, nano-SIMS, cytometry, and animal housing (https://institut curie.org/dispatch/curiecoretech-core-facilities). In addition, the hospital proximity allows access to large clinical databases and sample collections as well as an outstanding environment for paediatric-oncology research.
Context
Research unit – U830
The “Cancer, Heterogeneity, Instability and Plasticity” unit (U830) (https://institut-curie.org/unit/u830) at Institut Curie is recruiting a group leader wishing to address questions on fundamental mechanisms of cancer (“hallmarks of cancer”) using paediatric cancers as model systems and/or investigating molecular bases and therapeutic vulnerabilities of childhood cancers. Important criteria for the selection of the candidates will be the quality of their scientific record and project, as well as their capacity to interface with biologists and clinicians in the research and clinical departments and beyond, to drive developments in the field of biomedical research on cancer, the main mission of Institut Curie.
The unit is located at the Institut Curie joint clinical/research campus in central Paris. The six current research groups investigate basic mechanisms of cancer initiation, progression and/or resistance to treatment with particular focus on genetic and epigenetic alterations, tumour microenvironment, DNA repair and computational biology.
The newly recruited group will benefit from state-of-the-art research equipment, appropriate laboratory space for 6-7 people and a start-up package.
The successful candidate should meet the criteria to compete for national and international funding, and for French
institutional research positions (University or INSERM).

Cancers pédiatriques et génomique : un changement majeur ?
|
